Our Chief Executive will be integral to setting the tone, culture and expectations of the organisation, building on success to date and providing clear leadership and direction to colleagues as we continue to innovate and aspire. And our Corporate Director: Resources will be a highly visible and influential individual across the organisation, working with colleagues to shape a consistent and rigorous approach to financial planning and governance, adding value and bringing constructive challenge to key strategic decisions.  

At the heart of East London and a few miles from the City, Newham has much to offer. An abundance of development land, excellent transport links and a young, energetic and increasingly skilled workforce ideally places the borough to accommodate London’s eastwards growth in the 21st century.

You’ll be joining us at a time when the Borough is enjoying huge investment into infrastructure and growth. We anticipate 43,000 homes and up to 60,000 jobs to be created between now and 2033, supporting the considerable population growth that the borough is experiencing. And as a council, we want to be the blueprint for participatory democracy by involving residents, and particularly our young people, in our decision-making through citizens’ assemblies and an emphasis on openness, transparency and accountability.

We are proud to be one of the most ethnically diverse local authorities in the country. More than 360 languages are spoken on the streets of Newham, and we are committed to having conversations with and listening closely to our residents and involving them in the design of the services and strategies that will make a difference to their lives. And we are investing in our young people – allocating £10.6m in our 2019-20 budget proposals to our services for children and young people, alongside a £1.4m investment towards keeping our young people safe. Newham has the youngest population in London and we need to do all we can to support and nurture their potential, create opportunity for them, and ensure that our borough is an affordable, safe and desirable place for them to make their homes. Newham is booming, and we must make the most of the land available to us to maximise the opportunities to build the homes at social rent our residents so desperately need.
